Ships of the Royal Navy, 1900-1960
Models by Dr. John Shaw
| The Tribal Class frigate HMS Zulu was my first model; it was a Deans Marine Kit at 1:96 scale. Building this model enabled me to grasp the essentials of modelling, especially building structures from plastic card. Zulu now spends most of her time in dry dock, after being dropped to the floor by my wife! | ![]() |
| HMS Hood was vessel number two. She was built at 1:192 scale using a fibreglass hull by Colin Vass. She always get lots of interest. "Oh yeah, she got a shell down her funnel" is a typical comment. | ![]() |
| HMS Audacious, battleship, 1912. Sank off Donegal during World War I after hitting a mine. This is a 1:128 scale scratch built model with a solid basswood hull and upperworks made from plastic card. |
| HMS Dido was built using Fleetscale hull and fittings, and boats from Quaycraft. I subsequently repainted this 1:128 scale model in camouflage colours. | ![]() |

| HMS Hedingham Castle, a Castle Class Corvette, was scratch built. |
| HMS Devonshire, a County Class cruiser, Fleetscale hull and parts, 1:128 scale. |
